The Federal Aviation Administration requirements for the Commercial Pilot certificate are as follows:
- be a citizen of the United States (or obtain approval from the Transportation Security Administration) - hold an FAA medical certificate (Class II to exercise privileges of commercial pilot certificate) - be at least 18 years old - be fluent in English (speak, read, write) - have at least 250 hours of logged flight experience - have obtain ground and flight instruction - pass the FAA Commercial Pilot written examination - pass the FAA Commercial Pilot practical test with an FAA Examiner or Designed Examiner
The Commercial Pilot certificate allows the pilot to "fly for hire". The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 61.129 specifies the requirements of the Commercial pilot. This is the beginning of a career in aviation and is essential for all commercial flight including flight instructor.
